Why Trump is putting pressure exclusively on Ukraine: Volker gave the answer

US President Donald Trump is putting pressure on Ukraine because he considers it the weaker side, and he still hopes to persuade Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war.

This was stated by former US State Department Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker in an interview with Glavkom.

According to him, Trump is disappointed by Putin’s reluctance to end the war because he expected it to be easy to do.

“I think he’s surprised that it’s not happening, but he’s still trying to convince Putin to agree to a ceasefire, not pressuring him,” Volker explained.

As the diplomat noted, this is precisely why Trump is not imposing new sanctions against Russia and avoiding criticism of Putin. At the same time, he has inflated expectations from Ukraine, placing responsibility mainly on Kyiv.

“This is a very unbalanced attitude towards war,” Volker added.

In his opinion, Trump’s position will continue: “Trump will not change his approach.”

As we will recall, US President Donald Trump met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Oval Office of the White House. The meeting touched on both the war in Ukraine and trade relations between the US and the EU. Trump described a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in which he “sees the war in Ukraine as a crazy fight between two little kids in the park.”

As reported, the US president has threatened sanctions against Ukraine for the first time. In addition to some psychological factors, this also indicates Donald Trump’s desire to develop partnership relations with Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin.

In addition, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with both Russia and Ukraine, stating that the parties could have already concluded a peace agreement.
