Will Ukraine have enough gas this winter under Russian shelling: the response of the Ministry of Energy

Preparations for the 2025–2026 heating season in Ukraine are proceeding as normal — gas accumulation is taking place according to the approved schedule, and available resources, including imported supplies, will ensure the needs of the population.

This was announced by Deputy Minister of Energy for European Integration Olga Yukhymchuk during a nationwide telethon.

“The accumulation of energy resources is going according to plan, without deviations. We are fulfilling all the prerequisites for a stable heating season,” she emphasized.

According to the official, before the start of the cold weather, it is planned to generate at least 13.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas, of which approximately 4.6 billion will be imported.

“As of now, all indicators are on schedule. But for security reasons, we are not disclosing exact figures. Especially given Russia’s targeted attacks on energy infrastructure — including gas industry facilities,” Yukhymchuk explained.

She also assured that the Ministry of Energy will provide the necessary reserves of the resource for the autumn-winter period, and primarily to cover the needs of households.

“All measures are aimed at ensuring that Ukrainians are warm this winter, despite all the challenges,” the deputy minister added.

The 2025–2026 heating season in Ukraine has already started in some regions. Its full rollout is expected during October, depending on weather conditions and decisions by local authorities.

Let us remind you that the heating season in Kyiv begins on Friday, October 3. First of all, heat will begin to be supplied to hospitals, kindergartens, schools and other social institutions.
