The war in Ukraine could end by the fall of 2026 if Ukrainian forces survive the winter and emerge in the spring with an advantage over the Russian occupiers.

This was stated by former US President’s Special Representative for Ukraine Keith Kellogg during the panel discussion “Ukraine: The Future on the Front Lines” in Davos.

According to him, the coming months – January and February – remain critical. If Ukraine survives this period, in March-April it will be able to take the initiative that will open the way to ending the war by Independence Day, August 24, 2026.

“I sincerely believe that if Ukraine survives this winter and emerges in the spring, the advantage will be on your side. I hope that by the end of the summer, peace will reign on this land,” Kellogg emphasized.

He stressed that despite the Kremlin’s loud statements, Russia’s real successes in Ukraine remain questionable. Russian troops have not achieved any strategic goals or captured key cities, while suffering significant losses in personnel and high-ranking officers.

“Putin measures his progress in meters, not miles. He is not in Odessa, not in Kyiv, and in fact has not even left Donbas. He has serious problems,” the former US special representative summed up.

As a reminder, Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto stated that only the one who started the war in Ukraine can end it . According to him, Ukraine cannot win the war and is now just trying to survive.

As reported, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, stated that in 2026, Ukraine plans to conduct offensive operations alongside strategic defense . The goal of such actions is to maintain the operational initiative and force the enemy to expend resources.
