US President Donald Trump has announced a change in plans for the Arc de Triomphe in Washington, D.C. He said the building will be transformed into a military complex with the ability to house drones, snipers, and ammunition.
He wrote about this in Truth Social .
Trump said he agreed to the change in design “at the insistent request” of the US Armed Forces and for national security reasons. He called the future structure a military complex that would also serve as the Arc de Triomphe.
According to the US president’s plan, the facility should provide for the placement, storage, and rapid use of a large number of drones. Trump also announced the possibility of placing snipers on the roof and in the square, as well as storing ammunition.
The 250-foot-tall structure is planned to be built near the Arlington Memorial Bridge, between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. The Trump administration previously presented the project as a memorial to the 250th anniversary of US independence.
At the same time, the project is already facing legal challenges. In particular, a group of veterans and an architectural historian are challenging its implementation, stating that it needs Congressional approval.
