US President Donald Trump has admitted the possibility of providing air support to Ukraine as part of a future peace deal with Russia. At the same time, he confirmed that American troops will not participate in hostilities on Ukrainian territory.

He said this in an interview with Sky News.

“The Europeans are ready to send their forces there. And we can help them with certain aspects – including, probably, from the air,” Trump said.

He did not provide details, but the White House confirmed that the option of air support is being considered as a possible element of the security package.

“The president has made it clear that U.S. ground forces will not be involved, but the United States can coordinate and provide other forms of support, including to our European allies,” said press secretary Caroline Levitt.

The statement came amid discussions among European countries about forming an international security contingent for Ukraine after a possible deal with Russia. The United States is likely to remain an indirect participant, reinforcing allies technically and from the air.

As a reminder, France, Great Britain and a number of other European countries plan to send a limited military contingent to Ukraine. This involves the creation of a so-called “deterrence force” that will include several thousand foreign servicemen.

As reported, about 10 countries have already expressed their readiness to send their troops to Ukraine , including the United Kingdom and France. The goal is to support the process of security guarantees after the cessation of hostilities, without going to the front line.
