Without abnormal heat and heavy precipitation: what is the forecast for October in Ukraine?

October in Ukraine, according to the preliminary forecast, will not bring significant deviations from the climatic norm. The average temperature during the month is expected to be at 6–12 °C, and the amount of precipitation will be close to the usual indicators for this period.

This was reported by the Ukrhydrometeorological Center.

According to the forecast, 31–77 mm of precipitation may fall in Ukraine during October, and 51–101 mm in the Carpathians. This will be about 80–120% of the climatic norm.

For comparison, the average long-term temperature in October in Ukraine is usually 6–13 °C. In the Carpathians it is lower — about 4–5 °C.

A steady decrease in the average daily temperature below +8 °C usually begins in the third decade of October. In Chernihiv and Sumy regions, this occurs earlier – in the second decade. In the south of the country and Transcarpathia, such a transition usually occurs at the beginning of November.

Frosts in the first half of October are a common occurrence in Ukraine. According to many years of observations, the lowest temperatures this month dropped to 7–16 °C below zero, and in some central regions, in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Bukovina regions — to 17.6–22.6 °C below zero.

At the same time, October is sometimes warm like summer. The absolute maximum temperature in different regions of Ukraine reached 25.6–35.3 °C. In the Carpathian highlands, the highest indicators were 19.7–26.7 °C.

As for precipitation, its average long-term amount in October is 29–54 mm. In the Carpathians and the Crimean Mountains, this figure can reach 64–84 mm, and in Transcarpathia – 86–106 mm. On the highest mountain peaks, values up to 129 mm have been recorded.
