Without journalists and deputies: Supreme Court continued consideration of Poroshenko’s case
П'ятий Президент України Петро Порошенко
On November 7, the Cassation Administrative Court of the Supreme Court continued to consider the lawsuit of the fifth President of Ukraine, leader of the European Solidarity party, Petro Poroshenko, who challenges the imposition of sanctions against him by the National Security and Defense Council.
As reported by Espresso, the court session was held in a closed format. Journalists and MPs who arrived at the court were not allowed inside.
People’s Deputy Volodymyr Ariev, commenting on the situation, stated that the decision to hold a closed hearing raises doubts about the transparency of the process.
“The fact that no one was allowed in today, except for lawyers, even MPs who have access to state secrets, indicates only one thing – to hide, in fact, nothing. This is just a way to delay time and make the process closed to society and international observers,” he noted.
Ariev emphasized that he had a question not for the judges, but for government representatives, whose actions, in his opinion, “slow down Ukraine’s progress towards the EU and undermine the trust of European partners.”
MP Mykola Velychkovych also expressed his position, believing that such cases should be considered as openly as possible.
“Ukraine is now under the close attention of international partners. That is why it is extremely important that such processes take place publicly, and that journalists can show the country what is really happening. Every mistake by the government has a high price,” he said.
The court will continue to consider the case in the future, but the date of the next hearing has not yet been announced.
As a reminder, the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal confirmed the illegality of blocking Petro Poroshenko’s international activities.
