European countries are preparing for a possible Russian invasion without US involvement as the US military presence on the continent is reduced. NATO countries in Europe are already adapting defense plans and strengthening their own military capabilities.
This is reported by Bloomberg .
Journalists note that the United States is partially withdrawing its troops from Europe. American diplomats assure that the allies will continue to support them, but these statements raise doubts among European governments.
European officials are working to strengthen NATO’s defense capabilities without relying on U.S. capabilities. Investments are being channeled into Europe’s arms industry, and military exercises are being conducted without the participation of American units.
“The urgency of these preparations will be underscored this week as Washington deepens ties with Russia. While the White House insists on ending the war in Ukraine, its threats this month to end military support for Kyiv have raised the prospect that European powers will have to defend Ukraine, and perhaps even the rest of their eastern border, with limited U.S. support,” the journalists noted.
The article also mentions that Russia’s actions are already being recorded outside Ukraine. Journalists report on the penetration of Russian drones into NATO airspace and numerous acts of sabotage, which European politicians accuse Moscow of.
The US is reducing its military presence in Europe, focusing on Asia. Allies have been asked to strengthen their own defenses. In particular, the number of US troops in Romania has been reduced from 1,700 to about 1,000. Similar plans have been announced for Bulgaria, Slovakia and Hungary.
Julia Joya, Director of the Black Sea Program at the Middle East Institute, stated that confidence in Washington’s security guarantees has declined.
“This is the first time in 70 years that Europeans no longer perceive American security guarantees as guarantees,” said Julia Joya.
In response to the changing security situation, Romania is looking for alternative partners to strengthen its defense. A potential security guarantor could be France, with which cooperation is currently in the process of deepening.
“The direction of history is the gradual separation of the United States from the European continent,” said French General Philippe de Montenon, adding that Europe is capable of operating without US support.
It was previously reported that Berlin is actively preparing for a potential armed conflict with the Kremlin . To this end, German officials are developing a multi-page secret plan in case of war.
As is known, the EU has begun active preparations for a potential war with Russia – the European Commission has developed a plan for preparing countries for combat readiness by 2030
Recall that London and its NATO allies are already in a state of hybrid war with Russia : the deployment of units of the Royal Air Force of Great Britain in Belgium to protect its airspace and critical infrastructure is the most obvious sign of this.
By the way, Belgian Defense Minister Theo Francken stated that any Russian attack on the territory of a NATO member state would receive a harsh response — in particular, in the event of a strike on Brussels, “Moscow would be razed to the ground.”
