The Security Service of Ukraine, with the assistance of the command of the National Guard special forces, detained an officer in Odessa who is suspected of working for Russian military intelligence.
The SBU reported this.
According to the investigation, the detainee is the commander of a special forces group of the National Guard. He passed on official information to the Russians about the work of his unit on the front line and behind enemy lines.
In particular, the officer provided representatives of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces with login details for his own account in the closed information system of the National Guard. Thus, the Russian side could gain access to secret information about the preparation and conduct of combat operations, as well as the management of the special forces personnel.
The SBU began monitoring the officer’s activities at the initial stage of his cooperation with Russian intelligence. He was detained at his residence in Odessa after additional measures were taken to protect classified information of the Defense Forces.
The investigation also established that, on behalf of Russian intelligence, a man set fire to a military vehicle in one of the port cities and filmed the fire on his phone.
Later, he was supposed to make a homemade explosive device and hand it over to a courier to organize a terrorist attack in southern Ukraine.
During the searches, the detainee’s phone, laptop, and other data carriers were seized, which, according to the investigation, contain evidence of his cooperation with Russian military intelligence.
The officer was charged with treason committed during martial law. The court chose for him a preventive measure of detention without bail.
If convicted, the man faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
It was previously reported that the SBU has declared a suspicion against the occupation “inspector” of the penal colony in the captured Sukhodilsk in Luhansk region . According to the investigation, he participated in the torture of Ukrainian prisoners of war for several years.
