Elina Svitolina and Jessica Pegula will face off in the WTA 1000 tournament decider in Dubai on Saturday. The final is scheduled to start at 5:00 PM Kyiv time.
For the Ukrainian tennis player, this is a chance to conquer the court in the UAE for the third time.
In the semifinals, Svitolina defeated Coco Gauff in a tense battle, 6-4, 6-7 (13-15), 6-4. The match proved grueling: the second set stretched to a 28-point tiebreak, and in the deciding set, one game lasted 20 points. Despite squandering four match points in the second set, the Ukrainian still held on to win.
Ukraine’s No. 1 spent more than seven hours on the court during her three matches. Now she could make history: if she triumphs, it will be her third title in Dubai, following victories in 2017 and 2018—and her third in three finals at this tournament.
