Moscow and Beijing should jointly defend their security and development interests in order to shape a “more just and rational” international order.
This was stated by Chinese leader Xi Jinping during a meeting with the Chairman of the Russian State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin, who arrived on a visit to China, Reuters reports.
According to the Chinese leader, Russia and China should “strengthen strategic cooperation” and unite countries of the so-called “Global South” to counter Western influence. Volodin’s visit coincides with preparations for the arrival of Vladimir Putin, who will soon travel to Beijing to participate in a security forum with dozens of leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Putin will also take part in a military parade in Beijing to mark the anniversary of Japan’s surrender in World War II. The event is expected to be a showcase of China’s military might and its strategic partnership with Moscow.
On the eve of the parade, the Chinese authorities intensified an information campaign, emphasizing the contribution of China and the USSR to the victory over Nazism and militarism in the 20th century.
Against this backdrop, US President Donald Trump warned that Washington could impose new sanctions on Russia if there is no progress in ending the war in Ukraine. In addition, the American leader threatened China with 200 percent tariffs if Beijing does not resume supplies of rare earth materials to the US.
As reported, China has significantly accelerated the pace of expansion of its nuclear arsenal, actively building up its capabilities on land, in the air and at sea. Despite Beijing’s official statements about the “no first use” policy, experts and the US military warn that such modernization may indicate intentions to use nuclear weapons in crisis situations, in particular in the event of a threat of defeat in the Taiwan Strait.
By the way, the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine reported that thanks to cooperation with Chinese companies, Russia receives critically important resources for the military industry . These include special chemicals for the production of explosives, electronic components, and machine tools that are directly used in the production of weapons and military equipment.
