The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) have uncovered a large-scale scheme to influence the legislative process . Specifically, the leader of one parliamentary faction allegedly offered financial rewards to colleagues for supporting or blocking specific initiatives in the parliamentary chamber. According to unofficial reports, this refers to Batkivshchyna leader Yulia Tymoshenko.
This became known on the evening of January 13. NABU and SAP detectives exposed the leader of a parliamentary faction in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for offering bribes to several members of parliament in exchange for voting for or against specific bills.
Law enforcement officials have not officially named the suspect, but according to an investigation by journalists from the “Schemes” project, it is Batkivshchyna leader Yulia Tymoshenko. Sources from Babel in the NABU and SAPO also point to Tymoshenko.
As previously reported by Pryamyi , law enforcement officials have charged the leader of the unnamed faction with the crime under Part 4 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“offer, promise, or provision of an unlawful benefit to an official”). If found guilty, the defendant faces a sentence of 5 to 10 years in prison. Official representatives of Batkivshchyna have declined to comment.
At the same time, sources at OBOZ.UA claim that Yulia Tymoshenko was served with a notice of suspicion in the case of Servant of the People MP Yuriy Kisel, who is suspected of receiving improper benefits for voting in the Verkhovna Rada.
Other sources say the notice of suspicion was served on Servant of the People leader David Arakhamia. According to OBOZ.UA, searches are currently underway at the homes of Batkivshchyna leader Yulia Tymoshenko and Servant of the People faction leader David Arakhamia.
