Former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and Ukrainian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Valeriy Zaluzhny commented on the operation of Ukrainian defense forces in the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
In particular, in an article for ” Mirror Weekly ” he stated that “the price of such actions” is unknown to him.
“Such actions (the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ breakthrough in Russia’s Kursk region in August 2024), if justified primarily by human losses and with limited objectives, could be carried out. However, experience has shown that, ultimately, an isolated tactical breakthrough on a narrow section of the front does not bring the attacking side the desired success,” he wrote.
Zaluzhny noted that he does not know the price of such actions, but, in his opinion, it is “obviously too high.”
“The defending forces were able to take advantage of both technological and tactical advantages, and over time, not only prevented the tactical breakthrough from developing into operational success, but subsequently made a tactical advance of their own—also without operational success. The cost of such actions is unknown to me, but it was clearly too high.”
As a reminder, former Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Valeriy Zaluzhny believes that the Russians are closer to breaking the deadlock that arose on the front after the failed summer offensive in 2023 .
