The Zaporizhzhya NPP, which is temporarily under the control of Russian troops, is currently connected to only one external power line.
Reuters reports this.
International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi stated that the Ferrosplavnaya-1 power line failed on February 10. He said it was likely caused by military activity.
Currently, Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, with six power units, receives power through only one line, the Dneprovskaya line.
The station does not produce electricity, but requires a continuous power supply to cool the nuclear fuel and prevent an emergency.
The IAEA also reported obstruction of the mission’s work. According to Grossi, the agency’s permanent inspectors at the plant attempted to determine the circumstances of the damage, but were denied access to the distribution substation, citing “safety restrictions.”
