Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. They discussed security guarantees for Ukraine and financing for drone production.
The President of Ukraine announced this on Telegram.
“Today, in a bilateral format, we discussed expectations from the meeting in Alaska and possible prospects. We also discussed in quite detail security guarantees that could make peace truly sustainable if the United States still manages to pressure Russia to stop the killings and engage in real meaningful diplomacy,” Zelensky said.
He also emphasized the importance of achieving effective formats for security work within the coalition of the willing.
The leaders of the countries also discussed the continuation of support programs for the Joint Operational Command and defense production.
“Under any scenario, Ukraine will remain strong. We also talked with Cyrus about such ways of supplying weapons as the PURL program, and I invited the British to join. Of course, we also discussed our centennial agreement. Ukraine is preparing to ratify it in August, and as a result, we will be able to hold an expanded Ukraine-Britain meeting,” Zelensky noted.
It is noted that an important topic during the conversation was investments in drone production in Ukraine.
“We have significant potential to increase production volumes and need urgent funding for this. Drones play a crucial role on the front line. Ukrainian capabilities to produce them are extraordinary,” the President said.
He added that Ukraine is working with all partners, including Britain, on this.
It was previously reported that the British leadership has abandoned the idea of creating a 30,000-strong peacekeeping contingent to protect Ukrainian ports and cities . Instead, a more “realistic” strategy is being introduced – air patrols of western Ukraine, training Ukrainian defenders, and demining the Black Sea.
