Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to meet with US President Donald Trump in New York on September 22. The talks are expected to focus on ending the war, energy security, strengthening Ukraine’s air defence, and the possibility of producing Patriot missiles in Ukraine.
This was reported by Suspilne, citing a source in the President’s Office.
According to the publication’s interlocutor, Zelensky plans to discuss with Trump previous meetings with the US President’s special representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The presidents will also talk about further diplomatic steps aimed at ending the Russian-Ukrainian war.
They will also discuss energy and possible solutions in this area as part of efforts to end the war.
In addition, Zelensky and Trump plan to discuss a “winter support” package for Ukraine. In particular, Kyiv is counting on additional air defence equipment.
Another issue will be the possibility of licensed production in Ukraine of missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems.
Recall that earlier Donald Trump had already called on Ukraine to stop attacks on Russian refineries, linking them to problems in the global diesel fuel market.
Before that, Zelensky spoke about the expected meeting with Trump on September 20th and stated that he planned to raise the issue of countering Russian ballistic missiles.
In addition, Trump recently signed a law on sanctions against Russia and Iran that, in particular, allows tariffs on countries that purchase Russian oil and gas.
