Zelensky announced a new prisoner exchange: how many people are planned to be returned

The heads of the Ukrainian and Russian negotiating teams are in constant contact and are preparing a new large-scale prisoner exchange.
This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during a conversation with journalists, Suspilne reports .
“Rusty (Umerov — ed.) talked about the exchange with Medinsky – they are in contact. We want to take 1,000 people,” he assured.
According to Zelensky, both sides are currently working on lists of prisoners.
In addition, the president spoke about a bilateral meeting with Russia, emphasizing that Ukraine could meet “even tomorrow.”
“But we need a result. We have read all their memorandums, we know them well. And they have read and studied ours very well. They know what they want, and we know what we want. We can simply meet with them without any forward movement – and it is precisely such empty meetings that are beneficial to them,” Zelensky added.
He noted that the Russian side has repeatedly violated the agreements reached after the meetings.
“We meet, there is an agreement on the exchange, and besides the exchange, there is an agreement on the format in which the leaders will meet to try to agree on the end of the war, on one or another stage. But we met and agreed only on the exchange. They came back and said: “Let’s go ahead with the exchange, civilians… after the civilians there will be a call with Rustem, we will discuss further”. They had a call. Now they say: “we probably need to do something else – technical meetings”. That is, they are delaying everything”, he explained.
Ukraine will communicate with US President Donald Trump, and he will talk to China.
“Everyone will do their bit to ensure that the meeting at the leadership level takes place,” the president is convinced.
As a reminder, on August 24, Ukraine and Russia held another prisoner exchange , in particular, they managed to return military personnel and civilians home.
As is known, on August 14 , another 84 people were returned to Ukraine from Russian captivity . These are military and civilians, almost all of whom need medical assistance.
