Zelenskyy Signals Plans to Replace Ukraine’s Ambassador to the US, Markarova
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy plans to replace Oksana Markarova as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States but has proposed that she remain in the presidential team in a different role.
A source from the President’s Office told Suspilne in a comment.
The issue of Markarova’s successor has not yet been resolved, although preliminary consultations have taken place with Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. A final decision on the candidacy is expected to be made shortly.
According to Bloomberg, during his recent conversation with Donald Trump, Zelenskyy discussed several potential candidates for the post of ambassador to the United States. Among them are Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Defense Minister Oleksiy Umerov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice Olga Stefanishyna, and Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko. This information was also confirmed by other informed sources.
At the same time, Olga Stefanishyna denied any discussions regarding her appointment as ambassador to the United States during the telethon.
We remind you that the day before, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a telephone conversation with Donald Trump, discussed the replacement of the current Ukrainian ambassador to Washington, Oksana Markarova.
As reported, the current Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal may be replaced by the Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko as early as July 2025.
