Zelensky explained the conditions for signing US security guarantees for Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the issues of control over territories and the 20-point plan remain critically important for signing US security guarantees.

He said this in an interview with the Italian publication Corriere Della Serra.

Zelensky noted that although there are protocols with European partners and agreements on the reconstruction of the country, their implementation is possible only after peace is established.

“We have security guarantees from the Americans, but they want to sign them only in the context of an agreement with the Russians. I don’t agree with this, but that’s how it is. We also have a ready-made protocol with the Europeans, but it hasn’t been signed either. There are agreements on our restoration, but they can be implemented only after peace is established. But this is not enough. We remain on the position of the 20-point plan and the issue of control over the territories,” the president said.

“The Americans are thinking about exchanging territories, the Russians want us to leave. The exchange is not in our interests, besides, Moscow needs a lot of forces to control the territories we left: they know that we would like to return what they took from us. Why should we exchange our territory for another, which is part of our homeland?” – Zelensky noted.

As a reminder, the head of the President’s Office and a member of the Ukrainian negotiating team, Kirill Budanov, stated that the Russian side agreed to accept the security guarantees for Ukraine offered by the United States . According to him, progress has also been achieved in the military subgroup on control over the demilitarized zone.

As reported, analysts from the UK and Ireland have assessed Vladimir Putin’s possible demands for ending the war against Ukraine. In their opinion, the Kremlin will not agree to peace without control over the entire strategic part of the Donetsk region, the absence of effective security guarantees for Ukraine, and a change of power in Kyiv.
