Zelensky held talks with Starmer: main theses and conclusions of the meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy paid an official visit to London, where he met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. During the talks, the parties discussed military support, sanctions policy against Russia, energy security, and further strengthening of the strategic partnership between the two countries.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has confirmed that his government is ready to continue providing military assistance to Ukraine, including long-range weapons. He said the UK remains committed to the fight against Russian aggression and intends to continue to play a leading role in supporting the Ukrainian people.
“We are absolutely committed to addressing the issue of Russian aggression,” Starmer said.
The politician stressed that the British government will continue its course to strengthen Ukraine’s defense potential, in particular through the expansion of training programs for the Ukrainian military and the transfer of new batches of weapons. He also noted that London is working with partners to increase sanctions pressure on Russia, especially in the energy sector.
“I really believe that this week we can really put pressure on Russian oil and gas. Huge steps forward have already been made,” the British Prime Minister added.
According to Starmer, the UK is preparing a new package of sanctions aimed at restricting the export and transit of energy resources from Russia. In addition, the government is considering additional measures against companies that facilitate the circumvention of restrictions.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in turn, thanked the British government and personally Keir Starmer for their unwavering support for Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. The President emphasized that London’s assistance is crucial for strengthening Ukraine’s defense, training the military, and stabilizing the country’s energy system.
“Britain has stood by Ukraine from day one — and this support has saved thousands of lives. We appreciate the leadership of Keir Starmer and the British people in the joint fight for freedom and justice,” Zelenskyy noted.
The parties also discussed issues of European energy security, initiatives to restore Ukrainian infrastructure, as well as coordination of actions within international alliances supporting Ukraine. Particular attention was paid to Britain’s role in the “coalition of the willing”, which is engaged in the supply of missiles, drones and air defense systems.
Journalists note that this meeting became one of the key ones in the new stage of relations between Kyiv and London after the change of government in Great Britain. It confirmed the intentions of the new British administration not only to continue the policy of supporting Ukraine, but also to expand it through new areas of cooperation.
Keir Starmer also emphasized that the United Kingdom will continue to remain “Ukraine’s closest ally and supporter,” and the common goal of both states is to ensure a sustainable peace on Kyiv’s terms.
