President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is ready to offer US President Donald Trump to put the entire peace plan to a nationwide referendum if Russia agrees to a 60-day ceasefire.

Zelenskyy said this while commenting on the parameters of a possible end to the war. According to him, 60 days is the minimum period necessary to prepare for the vote, taking into account political, logistical and security risks.

The President emphasized that the US is proposing a 15-year term for the future peace agreement, but Ukraine considers this term too short. Zelensky said that he seeks to agree with the American side on a longer period of security guarantees and would consider this a great success.

The Head of State emphasized that if the parties cannot reach a strong position on the territorial issue, the final decision should be made by the Ukrainian people. At the same time, he warned that a referendum in wartime conditions carries serious risks. If citizens cannot vote safely, the result may be illegitimate. In such a case, he said, it would be better not to hold a referendum at all.

Zelensky also said that in the case of “very difficult” decisions, the 20-point peace plan should be put to a national vote. He compared a possible referendum to Brexit, emphasizing that in Ukraine it would take place in conditions of war and in a short time frame.

Separately, the president said that Donald Trump may possibly come to Ukraine to support a peace agreement to end the war. According to Zelensky, special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have already expressed their readiness to visit Ukraine.

The Head of State added that a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine is possible only after the cessation of hostilities. According to him, the coalition of the willing will be able to start work only after the establishment of a regime of silence. At the same time, Ukraine already has agreements with about 30 countries on security on land, at sea and in the air.

Commenting on the security situation, Zelensky also stated that Russia is bypassing Ukrainian borders to intercept drones thanks to technical support from Belarus, which creates additional challenges for air defense.

As previously reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during the planned meeting with US President Donald Trump, security guarantees for Ukraine and territorial issues will be the key topics.

Let us recall that the presented “peace plan”, which includes 20 points, is most likely the first line of retreat for the Ukrainian side, rather than the final compromise.
