Zelensky seeks new ambassador to Washington: possible candidates named

During a telephone conversation with Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the issue of replacing the current Ukrainian Ambassador to Washington, Oksana Markarova.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing its own source.
According to the agency’s source, the list of potential candidates for the position of Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States includes:
- Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal;
- Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanyshyna;
- Minister of Defense Rustem Umerov;
- Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko.
According to a Bloomberg source, Zelensky instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss with the American side the appointment of Ukraine’s next ambassador.
Bloomberg added that the replacement of current ambassador Oksana Markarova comes at a delicate moment in Ukraine’s relations with the United States. The Trump administration has suspended military supplies to Ukraine, which caught the Zelenskyy government and its allies by surprise.
It was previously reported that the current Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal could be replaced by the Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko as early as July 2025 .
