Volodymyr Zelenskyy will propose to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a bill that will respond to public concerns about the independence of the NABU and the SAPO.

He stated this in his address on July 23.

“I will propose to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine a bill that will be a response that will provide strength to the law and order system,” the president said.

Zelenskyy stated that there will be no Russian influence or interference in the activities of the NABU and SAPO, however, he emphasized the importance of the independence of anti-corruption institutions.

He also called on the heads of law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies, as well as the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, to provide proposals for norms that should work.

“This will be a presidential bill, and we will implement it as part of our strategy for transforming the state,” he noted.

He also emphasized that the most important thing at the moment is “not to lose the unity of the country.”

People’s Deputy from the “EU” party Oleksiy Honcharenko reported that the Rada will urgently convene to vote on Zelensky’s new draft law on NABU and SAPO next week.

As a reminder, on July 22, the Verkhovna Rada voted for a bill that significantly limits the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) , effectively subordinating their activities to the Prosecutor General.

It should be noted that Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a resonant law that significantly changes the powers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP), strengthening control by the Prosecutor General.

By the way, the Verkhovna Rada plans to prepare a submission to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to repeal Law No. 12414, which limits the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).
