Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated Ukraine’s urgent need for interceptor missiles for Patriot systems ahead of the winter period.

The head of state said this in an interview with Deutsche Welle on September 11 at the Canadian military base in North Bay.

According to Zelenskyy, Russia produces approximately 140 ballistic missiles monthly. To intercept them, according to NATO standards, it would require approximately twice as many interceptor missiles—around 280 per month.

At the same time, the president acknowledged that providing Ukraine with that many missiles is currently unrealistic. Even acquiring 100 interceptors per month, he said, would be a “tremendous challenge.”

“I want to have 100-120 Patriot missiles for these difficult months, especially the cold months,” Zelensky said.

He added that Ukraine is considering the possibility of obtaining missiles both from stockpiles and directly from US production facilities. Kyiv is also negotiating with individual Middle Eastern countries regarding possible supplies, but the president did not disclose any details.

As a reminder, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated that in September, he and other European leaders could travel to the United States to persuade President Donald Trump to transfer some of the American stockpiles of Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine .
