Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Olga Stefanishyna as the country’s new ambassador to the United States, succeeding Oksana Markarova, who held the post during the most challenging years of the full-scale war.

He wrote about this in Telegram.

The President emphasized that two strategic Ukrainian proposals for the United States are already on the table: an arms deal for Ukraine and an agreement on the transfer of modern drones to the United States. The implementation of these agreements will be the main challenge for the newly appointed ambassador.

“In many ways, the long-term guarantee of Ukraine’s security depends on relations with the United States,” Zelenskyy stressed.

Separately, the head of state thanked Oksana Markarova, who has headed the embassy in the US since 2021 and represented Ukraine during the most difficult stages of the war.

“I want to thank you for this work. We have already discussed further cooperation, and I suggested that Oksana Markarova remain part of the team—to continue working for the sake of Ukraine,” the president noted.
