Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a conversation with the media, identified three key tasks for the new Minister of Defense, Mykhailo Fedorov. The priorities were protecting the sky, resolving mobilization issues, and the functioning of the contract army.

He said this while talking to journalists.

The President stated that the main task for the Minister of Defense is to strengthen the protection of Ukrainian skies in cooperation with the military leadership.

“There are three key tasks that I have set for Defense Minister Fedorov. Number one is closing the sky. Together with the Air Force, with Commander Syrsky, with Commander Krivonozhko. Closing the sky is important in any case, regardless of how the situation develops. This is their task for today. It is very difficult, but that is why it is number one,” said President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The second task the president set was to resolve issues related to mobilization.

“Point number two is to deal with the issue of busification,” Zelenskyy said.

The president called the third task the need to resolve issues related to the work of the contract army and various formats of military contracts.

“Point number three: I asked Palisa, together with Fedorov, to put an end to unresolved issues regarding the contract army, all contract formats, of which a great many have already been developed, contracts must actually work,” the president said.

Zelensky also noted that separate work is underway on the development of unmanned systems and the use of artillery, as the needs of the Armed Forces are growing simultaneously in both directions.

“Because the budget is a budget, and our artillery is growing in size, and drones are growing in size – everything is growing. Previously, the military used to say: there will be more drones – less artillery will be needed. Now the demand is that more drones are needed, more artillery is also needed. We understand that this is a complex issue – a long-range projectile. And short-range artillery is no longer working, to be honest. Because the kill zone is already larger, wider than the projectile’s capabilities,” Zelensky said.

The President added that work to strengthen sky protection is also being coordinated with the Cabinet of Ministers, in particular with a view to protecting energy infrastructure.

By the way, Ukraine plans to destroy about 50 thousand Russian soldiers every month . According to the head of the Ministry of Defense, Mikhail Fedorov, this is one of the strategic goals.

Earlier, the Minister of Defense stated that a large-scale transformation of the unmanned sector is underway in Ukraine : the state is preparing its own alternative to Chinese Mavic drones, launching a digital Mission Control system, and forming special units to destroy enemy UAV operators.
