President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Andrej Babis in Yerevan. The parties discussed bilateral cooperation, support for Ukraine, and issues of European integration.
He wrote about this in Telegram .
During the meeting, Zelensky thanked the Czech people for their support for Ukraine and Ukrainians. The parties also discussed the development of bilateral relations between Ukraine and the Czech Republic and the possibilities of strengthening cooperation.
“Special attention is paid to Ukraine’s European integration and further steps towards our country’s membership in the European Union,” the Office of the President said in a statement.
Andrej Babis is a Czech politician who has previously repeatedly opposed certain formats of military aid to Ukraine and criticized support for Kyiv from Western countries.
Babis’ political statements have also included calls for a reduction in military support for Ukraine and an emphasis on the need for negotiations with Russia. Because of these positions, he is often characterized as a pro-Russian politician.
As is known, in the parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic, which ended on October 4, the populist ANO party of the country’s former Prime Minister Andrej Babis, who had previously repeatedly expressed anti-Ukrainian views, won .
It later emerged that the victory of populist and former Prime Minister Andrej Babis in the Czech parliamentary elections could affect the country’s stance on the war in Ukraine . At the same time, his ANO party did not win enough votes to form a government on its own, so Babis will have to look for coalition partners.
It is worth recalling that in March , a mass protest against the Babis government took place in the Czech capital, Prague, which attracted at least 400,000 people. The protesters opposed the new government’s policies and accused the authorities of pressuring the media and curtailing democratic processes.
