President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine will not agree to a peace agreement with Russia if it includes additional territorial concessions.

The head of state said this in an interview with Axios.

According to him, the desire of the Russian side for the complete withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the territory of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions is unacceptable.

“Emotionally, people will never forgive this. Never. They will not forgive… me, they will not forgive (the USA – ed.),” the president emphasized.

Zelensky noted that Ukrainians will not understand why they need to make additional territorial concessions.

However, he is convinced that society will agree to an agreement that will fix the line of combat contact in the East.

“I think that if we write in the document… that we stay where we stay on the contact line,” the president explained.

Separately, he noted that Ukraine and the United States agreed that the peace agreement would need to be put to a referendum.

As is known, active work is underway to resolve the territorial issue in the US-mediated negotiations to end Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Recall that during the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia in Abu Dhabi , the issue of Donetsk Oblast was key and unresolved .

Analysts note that transferring control over part of the region will not stop the war, but will only create conditions for a new Russian offensive.
