Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has not abandoned plans to appoint former Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko as Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, despite her prior refusal.

The Financial Times reports this.

According to the publication, the head of state continues to search for a new head of the Ukrainian embassy in Washington, and the leading candidate remains Sviridenko, who resigned during the recent government personnel changes.

Sources close to the president claim that Svyrydenko rejected the proposal this week. Meanwhile, Zelenskyy, they say, continues to try to persuade her to accept the appointment.

The Financial Times notes that the post of Ukrainian ambassador to the United States is taking on particular significance against the backdrop of the war and the development of relations with Washington under Donald Trump’s presidency.
