The temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant experienced its tenth blackout since the beginning of 2026. Due to the loss of external power supply, the plant temporarily switched to backup diesel generators, but power supply was later restored.
This was reported by the press service of NNEGC Energoatom.
According to the company, due to the loss of external power supply, the ZNPP was forced to switch to power from backup diesel generators, which ensure the operation of critical safety systems.
The station’s external power supply was subsequently restored.
Energoatom emphasized that this is the tenth blackout at the Zaporizhzhia NPP since the beginning of 2026.
“This is the tenth blackout since the beginning of 2026 — an alarming record for Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, which has been under Russian occupation for over four years. Such statistics are unprecedented and indicate the critical state of nuclear safety at the nuclear facility,” the company noted.
Energoatom also emphasized that the Russian occupation of the plant continues to pose serious risks to nuclear and radiation safety.
“Another blackout once again confirms: as long as the Zaporizhzhia NPP remains under Russian occupation, the risks to nuclear and radiation safety do not disappear. The only guarantee of the safe operation of the plant remains its deoccupation and return to full control of Ukraine and the sole legitimate operator,” the report says.
It was previously reported that Russian occupation forces have deployed military equipment, ammunition depots, and missile systems on the territory of the Zaporizhzhia NPP , while IAEA experts do not have full access to the facility.
