Up to 200-300 civilians were killed during the occupation, street fighting and shelling in Irpin, Kyiv region, also circa 50 servicemen, including 16 territorial defence fighters, were killed during the battles in the city.

The mayor of the city Oleksandr Markushyn reported about it during a press briefing.

“Unfortunately, 16 guys from our territorial defence died, 29 have been hospitalised. As for the Armed Forces, I guess, up to 50 people were killed and nearly 100 wounded. But they retook the small town, already Hero City, did not give it away, did not allow the enemy to enter Kyiv”, Markushyn said.

Up to 200-300 civilians were also killed. “Many people died under the rubble… Nobody has sorted through the rubble yet… Today our team, together with the police and the military, were involved in the recovery operations of the dead”, the Mayor added.

He also reported about humiliation and murder of citizens by the Russian occupiers.

“They [the Russian troops] just shot the people they didn’t like. I’ll say this, maybe someone won’t like it, but it’s true. They crushed the bodies of Ukrainians who had been killed, crushed them, and simply flattened them into the asphalt. It was frightening to watch…” Markushyn said.

The mayor also said that the local residents who came out of the basements told him that not only were some of them stripped naked there, but also that there have been acts of “sexual abuse on women”.

The mayor further clarified that about 30% of the city’s residents refused to leave it with the outbreak of war and survived the battles and occupation of Irpin.

According to him, 50% of the city’s buildings and critical infrastructure was destroyed. Water supply is already being restored by connecting the networks to Kyiv, and energy and gas supply has not been restored yet, as it is dangerous.
