The lawyer Ilya Novikov: at the request of Poroshenko, the group of our lawyers records the facts of crimes of the Russian occupiers in Bucha for international courts

The group of lawyers, created at the request of Petro Poroshenko, records the facts of crimes of Russian militaries to transfer them in international courts.

The lawyer Ilya Novikov informed about this on the air of ‘Pryamiy’. He revealed a video in Facebook, made in Bucha.

‘We`ve just received exclusive materials from Bucha, that directly testified crimes against humanity committed by Russian occupiers. At the request of Petro Poroshenko, immediately formed a working group of lawyers, who has to authenticate all facts of these inhuman crimes for international courts’, – Novikov said.

‘We understand that there are not any conditions for providing ordinary investigative actions. So we record it on our own.  We formed the group of lawyers who receive the information from these sources, from our soldiers. I hope after the end of this war, we will be able to find out who exactly by surnames from the Russian military was present in these places, who is personally responsible for these crimes’, – Novikov explains. 

‘We do not compete with the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine. We think they don’t have enough sources. That’s why, everything is collected by us, we will send to our colleges without fail’, – the lawyer noted. Novikov explained that it is highly important to record military crimes of Russian occupiers as quickly as possible, before witnesses don’t leave deoccupied territories, and evidence doesn’t disappeared.

‘International courts International courts operate according to different standards than those provided by the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Any information from a understandable source, which originated from a human, who can confirm his or her appearance there, he or she saw it with his or her own eyes, this video is proper evidence, in principle. Therefore I am sure our efforts will not be in vain’, – Ilya Novikov says.

‘From the beginning of the war, we have had this initiative group of lawyers, who partially worked in the evacuation in order to record and pass on all this information that we can save. We are sure that our colleges from the Prosecutor’s Office will find the way to handle this information, even if the situation will change’, – the lawyer explains.

‘We have to help our official investigative bodies. Our aim is to help the international investigation, international courts, which will certainly take place according to results of this war’, – Novikov emphasizes.

Ilya Novikov also called on witnesses of the criminal actions of the Russian occupiers to shoot videos if possible and send them to e-mail WarCrimesUA2022@gmail.com

He warned people in the newly deoccupied territories to be careful and not to touch anything because of the threat of mines.

‘We only ask that the people who make the video send it to us and contact us to confirm that the video comes from them. There is nothing more you can do now if you are not an investigator, a prosecutor. This is not your responsibility’, – Novikov explains.

‘But if you are there and taking this picture, please give it to us. Give it to the prosecutors. They will also be grateful. The only question is, if such a survey exists, we would like to have a copy of it, the source from which it originates. From a legal point of view, this is important and this is what is possible now’, – the lawyer explains.

“It is a matter of honor for our team to have a fair trial of the Putin regime and each survived participant of the Russian aggression’, – he said.
