Valentina Veretska, a 31-year-old refugee from Mykolayiv, won the women’s race at the Jerusalem Marathon. The woman, along with her daughter, were forced to leave Ukraine because of the Russian invasion.

This was reported by The New York Times.

“When russia invaded Ukraine, 31-year-old Valentina Veretskaya did not even pack clothes or other belongings. She and her 11-year-old daughter escaped from their native Mykolaiv, which had fallen under Russian bombing,” the report said.

On March 25, Valentina won the women’s race at the Jerusalem Marathon with a time of 2 hours 45 minutes 54 seconds.

According to her, after the evacuation she was extremely exhausted, but eventually found the strength to resume training and take part in the marathon. The woman contacted the organizers of the event and received a seat less than two weeks before the event.

By the way, this is the Ukrainian woman’s fourth marathon. In October 2017 she was the first to finish the race in Albania, and in May 2019 she took third place at the marathon in Germany.
