The United States and the European Union have reached an agreement to supply at least 15 billion cubic meters of American liquefied natural gas in 2022. According to the agreement, EU member states must meet the demand for at least 50 billion cubic meters of American gas by 2030. The agreement was announced by US President Joe Biden and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels.

Biden said Russia was using its efforts to supply Europe with oil and gas to manipulate its neighbors, so the United States would help Europe reduce its dependence on Russian oil and gas and provide the continent with sufficient supplies for the next two winters.

At the same time, von der Leyen called the joint energy group a major step in efforts to diversify gas supplies from Russia.

In addition, the United States has committed itself to ensuring stable demand and supply of an additional 50 billion cubic meters of American liquefied natural gas by 2030, which, according to von der Leyen, will replace a third of Russian gas supplies to Europe.
