Finland has announced an additional contribution of 40 million euros to the PURL initiative, which involves the purchase of American weapons for Ukraine.

This was stated by Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo at the opening of the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine in Gdansk.

“Today, I am proud to announce that my government has decided to allocate an additional 40 million euros to the PURL initiative,” Orpo said.

He also noted that Finland has already transferred 33 packages of material assistance to Ukraine.

The Finnish government clarified that the new contribution is part of a decision to increase military support to Ukraine by 300 million euros in 2026–2027.

According to Orpo, assistance through PURL should strengthen Ukrainian air defenses amid Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure.

“Russia continues its increasingly destructive attacks on civilian targets in Ukraine. Through PURL, Finland is contributing to strengthening Ukraine’s air defense,” the Prime Minister said.

Finnish Defense Minister Antti Hakkänen emphasized that contributions under this initiative will help Ukraine in a critical period. According to him, Finland also continues to support Ukraine through its own defense industry and the transfer of materials from the country’s Armed Forces stocks.

As a reminder, following the Energy Ramstein in Gdansk, the partners announced new assistance to Ukraine to restore its energy infrastructure. The total amount of additional support is at least 375 million euros.

Ukraine will also receive 15,000 long-range artillery shells from Denmark . Part of this shipment has already arrived in the country, and the rest will be transferred in the near future.

In addition, the European Union has disbursed the first tranche of macro-financial assistance to Ukraine in the amount of €3.2 billion. The funds are part of a large-scale €90 billion loan package that the EU plans to provide to Ukraine over the next two years.

By the way, Ukraine has received ten ALTO NG training aircraft . They will help train new military pilots in Ukraine, reduce training costs, and accelerate the training of pilots to fly modern Western fighter jets.
