Discussions on the Crimean Peninsula should not be based on the personal interests of politicians, but on the principles of international law and historical justice. Recent statements by US President Donald Trump about the geographical features and attractiveness of the peninsula have sparked lively discussions among the public and experts.

The Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, Refat Chubarov, on the air of “Pryamoye”, expressed a strong objection to these statements by one of the international leaders about the occupied territory.

The head of the Crimean Tatar representative body emphasized that the peninsula is an integral part of the Ukrainian state, noting that it is originally Ukrainian land. He added that a people with their own statehood developed on this territory for centuries.

“If anyone decides the fate of Crimea, it should be decided by the Ukrainian state and the Crimean Tatar people. This needs to be explained to him and not only to him,” Chubarov said.

According to him, the only entities authorized to determine the future of the region can only be Ukraine and the indigenous people of the peninsula, rejecting any external interference or decisions based on ignorance.

At the same time, the representative of the Crimean Tatar people expressed cautious hope for the results of the upcoming negotiations in Berlin. He paid special attention to the plan for security guarantees, emphasizing the need to protect the country’s interests. It is extremely important that all details of the developed documents fully comply with national interests, – Chubarov noted.

However, in his opinion, the possibility that the ceasefire agreements will not provide for the complete liberation of all territories, including Crimea, is of particular concern. In such conditions, as the studio guest clarified, it is the security guarantees for the residents of the occupied areas that become a priority. He expressed hope that in the coming days the details of these plans will become known, and they will not cause alarm.

As a reminder, US President Donald Trump has made a number of controversial statements about Ukraine, Crimea, and President Volodymyr Zelensky. In particular, he claimed that Crimea is “surrounded on four sides by ocean” and said that the peninsula was allegedly “given” to Russia by former US President Barack Obama.
