After the auroras: what to expect from magnetic storms on January 20-21

Згенеровано ШІ

Between January 20 and 21, increased geomagnetic activity is expected on Earth, which may affect the well-being of weather-dependent people and the stability of electronic systems.

This was reported by the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.

According to experts, the cause of the disturbances was solar flares, which caused fluctuations in the Earth’s magnetic field.

According to the forecast, the most noticeable activity will occur at the beginning of the week.

  • A magnetic storm of medium intensity with a Kp-5 index is expected on January 20. The most noticeable fluctuations are predicted in the first half of the day.
  • On January 21, the disturbance level will decrease to Kp-4, which corresponds to a weak magnetic storm. By the evening, the magnetosphere should stabilize.

Medical experts explain that during magnetic storms, the body may react more sharply to external factors. This is often manifested by headaches, increased fatigue, fluctuations in blood pressure, and exacerbation of chronic conditions. People with cardiovascular diseases and increased meteosensitivity remain the most vulnerable.

To reduce the possible impact of geomagnetic disturbances, experts advise to monitor your well-being more closely, adhere to a moderate daily regimen, avoid overloads and conflict situations. They also recommend maintaining water balance, limiting heavy and excessively salty foods, reducing caffeine consumption, and ensuring adequate sleep.
