Civilization survives… for now. Trump did what he does best: hype everything up, then step back—at least for a couple of weeks.

In this whole farce, it was even necessary to lift planes from British bases, only to land in a puddle in the end. Not economically—here I somehow think that the White House will at least do something (from the very beginning, this special operation was conceived to control Iranian oil)—but politically. Big Donnie turned out to be a small and predictable businessman-blackmailer. Although this is not such big news anymore. He acts according to the same algorithm.

But the world saw a month of weak America. The United States was left without allies and without the political support of Europe, Britain, Canada, and Australia. Trump demands love through force, and his approach further alienates people who are used to partnerships, not banal blackmail.

We must eventually create a detailed psychological profile of this man (there is another who is “growing up” behind him—who, with his “morality,” may surpass Trump himself—and we need to study all his moves in detail). For those who haven’t seen the Vance analysis in the previous “Critical Thinking,” there are many characteristics of the vice president there.

For another two and a half years, we will have to grapple with this American policy, which, unfortunately, will remain unchanged. For the next few months, after freezing the conflict with Iran, Trump will return to his domestic political sandbox. He will sell Americans the greatest victory over all the world’s evil forces. Thank God, it will not be about the victory over Ukraine (although it could be).

On the bright side, there is hope that oil prices will creep down in a month, which would mean Russia earns less from the war.

Amid the busyness of the Congressional elections, we, along with the Europeans, should take advantage of the opportunity to reform the negotiation process. Reform the format itself (sorry for the tautology). Because it is obvious that the current trilateral one will no longer work. The states, against the backdrop of internal political confrontations and essentially ambiguous “victory” in the Middle East, will have to focus on themselves.

The potential business games with Putin are now taking away more points than they are giving. And the threats to leave NATO are further severing transcontinental ties, and Europe will at some point be forced to build its own security system without the US. This issue is already overdue. Let’s see how the elections in Hungary end—in fact, this will be a big starting point for many changes.
