“Both Putin and Zelensky agreed”: date of next trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi announced

The next round of trilateral talks involving the US, Ukraine and Russia will take place in Abu Dhabi on February 1. The parties will continue discussions after previous meetings, which the US side called productive.

The planned date and location of the meeting was reported by journalist Barak Ravid, citing a US official. According to him, the agreement on the new round was a continuation of consultations that had already taken place in the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

The US administration noted that previous talks on Ukraine in Abu Dhabi were constructive and created the basis for further dialogue in a trilateral format.

“Both Putin and Zelensky agreed to trilateral talks, which shows that they believe in the possibility of achieving an outcome,” the American official said.

The US also emphasized that the agreement of both sides to such a format indicates the expectation of progress during the next meeting.

It was reported the day before that the trilateral negotiations involving delegations from Ukraine, the United States, and Russia, which took place on January 23–24 in the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, had ended. Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue the negotiation process.

By the way, Washington is considering an offer to Ukraine to give up Donbas in exchange for a plan to finance the country’s reconstruction worth $800 billion.

As previously reported, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the Donbas issue will be central during the trilateral talks between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia , which will be held in the UAE on January 23-24.

As a reminder, the US and Ukraine are discussing the possibility of offering Russia a limited “energy truce,” which would involve a cessation of attacks on energy infrastructure on both sides.
