Crime against history: occupiers removed over a hundred cultural monuments from Crimea
Russians in temporarily occupied Crimea appropriated 110 cultural monuments during archaeological excavations between 2014 and 2025.
This was reported by the press service of the State Administrative Organization.
Valuable artifacts were discovered by the occupiers during illegal archaeological excavations at the following archaeological sites:
- “Artesian Settlement”;
- “Genoese Fortress of Cembalo”;
- Southern suburb of Tavrichesky Chersonese.
The Russians also stole valuables from a Roman camp on the territory of the Kadykivske settlement, on the site of which the occupation authorities of Sevastopol plan to build a shopping center.
In addition, exhibits from the Tavrian Chersonese National Reserve were taken out under the guise of a temporary exhibition at the Yekaterinburg History Museum.
In the War&Sanctions project, the “Stolen Heritage” section has been supplemented with information about the sites of illegal archaeological excavations, facts of theft of cultural values, and other illegal actions of the Russian occupation authorities on the territory of the occupied Crimea.
The GUR reminded that there will be fair retribution for every war crime committed against the Ukrainian people.
It was previously reported that Russian occupiers in Kherson stole almost 360,000 documents from the National Archival Fund .
By the way, the Russians destroyed an ancient fresco in the “Khan’s Palace” in occupied Bakhchisarai . The builders decided that the fresco was just old plaster and removed the coating.
