Energy embezzlement: treason or ordinary corruption?

Politician and former military officer Volodymyr Omelyan, analyzing the high-profile corruption scandal in the energy sector, suggested that embezzlement of budget funds could only be a cover for treason.

On the air of “Pryamoye”, he stated that the deliberate lack of protection at energy facilities and the monopolization of missile construction could have been beneficial to the Russian Federation.

“In fact, this is treason, which is covered up by corruption. It was profitable not to build defenses on energy facilities, so that it would be easier for the Russians to destroy them and paralyze the country. So they did it,” Omelyan noted.

The politician drew attention to the monopolization of the rocket industry by the FirePoint company, which he called “presidential.” Omelyan doubts that this was done solely for corrupt motives, suggesting that the real goal could have been to prevent the production of missiles capable of hitting targets in the territory of the Russian Federation.

He also stressed that the schemes disclosed by NABU are “business schemes of Zelensky himself.” Omelyan expressed concern that two current government ministers who appear in the recordings have not yet been charged with suspicion, and called for at least their suspension while the investigation is ongoing.

We will remind that on November 10, detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau conducted searches at the home of businessman and co-owner of the Kvartal 95 studio, Timur Mindich, who is an associate of President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the person involved in the case left the territory of Ukraine a few hours before the searches .

It was previously reported that NABU and SAPO are conducting a large-scale operation “Midas” to expose corruption in the energy sector. According to the investigation, the activities of a high-level criminal organization were established, which controlled financial flows and personnel decisions in state energy structures. In particular, law enforcement officers conducted searches at the home of former Energy Minister German Galushchenko and at JSC “NAEK “Energoatom” .

Later it became known that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine decided to remove Herman Galushchenko from the duties of the Minister of Justice. Also, the journalists of “Schemes” established the names of the persons to whom NABU detectives informed about the suspicion within the framework of the investigation of corruption in the energy sector.
