Estonia will ban Russian and Belarusian citizens from purchasing real estate.

The Estonian government has approved a bill banning citizens of Russia and Belarus, with rare exceptions, from purchasing real estate in the country.

ERR writes about this.

The document is aimed at strengthening national security and preventing the use of real estate for intelligence activities or sabotage.

The restrictions will apply to citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus who do not have long-term resident status or permanent residence in Estonia, as well as companies with Russian or Belarusian beneficiaries, regardless of their country of registration.

The bill still needs to be signed by the president. If enacted, the new rules will take effect on January 1, 2027.

Incidentally, Canada announced a new package of sanctions against Russia. The restrictions target representatives of the Russian energy sector, defense industry, propaganda organizations, and vessels of the so-called shadow fleet.

It was previously reported that the UK announced a new sanctions package against Russia , which is intended to target schemes to circumvent Western restrictions. The new measures target vessels transporting Russian oil, LNG tankers, intermediaries, and entities linked to Russian military intelligence.

As a reminder, the European Union has approved another round of sanctions against Russia. The new restrictions target Russian military-industrial complex enterprises, companies linked to the shadow fleet, the oil business, and Kremlin propagandists.
