The Russian political regime is currently unable to exist without active hostilities, as war has become the Kremlin’s key tool for internal stability. Moreover, the negotiations between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin were not aimed at achieving real peace, but resembled an attempt to conclude a private business deal.

This opinion was expressed to the UNIAN news agency by Russian oppositionist and world-famous chess player Garry Kasparov.

He noted that instead of professional diplomats, the parties involved family members and financial intermediaries. In particular, Trump’s interests were represented by his son-in-law together with a business partner, while the Kremlin side was represented by Dmitriev, known as the Russian leader’s financial manager.

“These negotiations were doomed from the very beginning, because they were not peace talks, but an attempt to conclude an agreement between Trump and Putin. That is why the negotiators on Trump’s side were his son-in-law and a business partner, not diplomats,” Kasparov is convinced.

In his opinion, the actions of the American administration resembled sabotage, as Ukraine was forced to agree to catastrophic conditions for the financial benefits of intermediaries. However, despite such pressure, the Ukrainian state managed to resist and reject the destructive scenario that was being prepared behind its back.

Kasparov also stated that Moscow has become completely dependent on militarization, so a ceasefire will force the Russian leadership to solve the problem of a million-strong army, which is dangerous to return to civilian life due to the high concentration of criminal elements and people with severe addictions.

“These are a million people, drug addicts, murderers, people accustomed to a completely different algorithm of life… They will never return. This means that Putin must look for other targets for war. Most likely, these are the Baltic countries,” the Russian oppositionist believes.

According to Kasparov, for the Kremlin, aggression has become a drug that requires constant expansion. In order to avoid social chaos and a sharp increase in crime within its country after a possible ceasefire, the aggressor will be forced to look for new targets for attack on the European continent as long as it has the resources for fighting, – Garry Kasparov emphasized.

The day before, Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the next round of talks on the war in Ukraine would take place next week. The President’s Office confirmed this information, saying that the Ukrainian delegation was preparing for a meeting in Geneva on February 17-18 .

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv appealed to US President Donald Trump to use the political moment to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. The Ukrainian leader declared his readiness for peace negotiations, but emphasized that he would not agree to agreements that were disadvantageous to the state .

As is known, in early February in Abu Dhabi, Ukraine, the United States and Russia held another round of talks on the settlement of the war. The parties have made some progress on procedural issues, but key differences remain . The most controversial issue in the negotiations remains control over the entire Donetsk region, on which the parties have not yet reached an agreed solution.
