Russia has launched a $26 billion state program called “New Technologies for Health Preservation” aimed at researching life extension and combating aging. The project has been entrusted to Vladimir Putin’s eldest daughter, Maria Vorontsova, and physicist Mikhail Kovalchuk.
This is reported by The Wall Street Journal .
According to journalists, the program is financed directly from the Russian state budget. Control over funding and research is exercised by individuals from Vladimir Putin’s inner circle.
The project is led by Maria Vorontsova, an endocrinologist who oversees the Russian Federation’s state genetic programs. The head of the Kurchatov Institute, Mikhail Kovalchuk, is also involved in the implementation.
The main areas of research have become xenotransplantation and organ bioprinting. In particular, we are talking about growing human organs in genetically compatible mini-pigs and creating living tissues using 3D printers.
The Kremlin announced the creation of human cartilage tissue and a mouse thyroid gland. The Russian government also plans to achieve the possibility of fully replacing human organs by 2030.
In addition, Russian scientists are working on cell and gene therapy to slow down aging processes at the DNA level.
Journalists note that Vladimir Putin has also shown interest in cryotherapy. During meetings with foreign leaders, he has talked about staying in cryochambers at temperatures around minus 112 degrees Celsius.
The material notes that the results of Russian research were not published in international peer-reviewed scientific publications.
International experts and Russian émigré scientists are skeptical about the prospects of these developments and draw attention to the lack of independent audit and public control over the use of funds.
It was previously reported that, at the initiative of Vladimir Putin , state support for scientific projects aimed at combating aging has significantly increased in Russia .
As we recall, on the sidelines of the celebrations in Beijing dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the victory over Japan in World War II, an unexpected moment occurred that caused quite a stir. While climbing Tiananmen Gate, the leaders of China, Russia and North Korea — Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-un — were accidentally recorded on a microphone during a personal conversation, the topic of which was longevity and even potential immortality .
