Hidden Imperials: Why Not All “Good Russians” Are Equally Useful

A little more about Denis Kapustin and the RDK in general in comparison with the “good Russians” – who are supposedly “for Ukraine”, but categorically “against the war and all this Nazism.”

MAIN: In the project of the “national Moscow state” from the “Nazis” I see prospects for implementation regardless of how much I believe in the possibility of such a thing. And in the imperial “liberal” initiatives I see no prospects for change. Without armed efforts, the project “Russia” cannot be radically overturned.

This is a very convenient position for simply “Russians”, for “aggressively patriotic” and for “good Russians” (although it has long been implausible): that all kinds of “Nazis” are drawn to Ukraine, therefore the “SVO” is really an attempt (even if it is bad and reprehensible) to “denazify” us. Although in reality it is simply the purposeful destruction of Ukraine as an anti-imperial project that breaks Russia’s entire invented “historical foundation of existence”. Because two states cannot exist on the same history, on the same myth. One must disappear one way or another.

As for Kapustin specifically (but not only him), he sincerely hates the Russian government, among other things for ideological reasons (as an anti-imperialist), and at a certain stage he realized that it can and should be fought on the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with weapons in hand. Because he saw that those who fought without weapons, even having enormous influence, were killed (like Nemtsov and Navalny). This fully corresponds to our interests – both assistance in reducing the size of the Russian army, and a course towards the fragmentation of the Russian Federation for the sake of creating a national Russian state “within the traditional borders of Moscow and the Moscow region.”

Yes, there are many such “Nazis” fighting in the Red Army… But this is truly the only format of possible interaction between Russians and Ukrainians. Because such “Nazis” have not imperial, but national thinking. “For the sake of their state, not the empire for all.” Not “ethno-Frankenstein”, an artificial assembly of the most diverse fragments, which Russia has been made of since the time of Peter the Great. At the same time, denying the traditions of the very foundation, the Muscovite kingdom.

But the “non-Nazis” stubbornly imagine Russia (and the liberal “Beautiful Russia of the future”) only as the same empire, built on the stolen history of the myth “we are from Kyiv and from Vladimir, we are one” (what Prokopovich and others have fucked us with). They think in terms of territory – huge and nothing else. They strive for a liberal, democratic, whatever – but a huge militarized empire “that everyone respects”. In which they can continue to serve the authorities, earn money, travel the world. They do not fit the Russian national state in their heads.

Because in the Russian nation-state, Shenderovich, Khodorkovsky, Navalnaya, Nevzorov, Chichvarkin simply will not be able to find their place (that is why they are against it). Ukrainians, Jews, Tatars will not have access to servicing the Russian state project, as they have done for three hundred years, helping to enslave their peoples.

For such HR, the “Ukrainian question” is temporary solidarity with us. For us, they are no different from the imperialists. Because for them, the current (and historical) Russian empire is correct in everything, except for the weak representation of the “Russians” in all important areas. That is, all that is needed is to make the “Russians” the main ones everywhere, so that the government is monoethnic, and everything else is normal.

By the way, Putin tried to flirt with this. But he realized that the Russian empire, when trying to impose an “original Russian” narrative (we see this from Chechnya, from Tatarstan, etc.), will get, on the contrary, a dispersing effect. Because “originality” is not compatible with Islam, with other religions, ways of life, etc. And so for three centuries the territories of the tribes that formed the “Russians” always remain in decline and terrible poverty. Which gives rise to the “Nazis.”

By the way, the “national question” seriously divides Russians regardless of ideology: so is there a reason to call yourself “Russian” if you were raised on Russian values, language, culture, but are not Erzya/Moksha/someone else by blood. And, for example, a Tatar. Or a Jew (this is precisely what makes up the lion’s share of all comments to Kapustin’s interview, few people are interested in his position and military achievements).
