Europe, including Ukraine, is currently experiencing abnormal heat, making the issue of cooling your home without air conditioning increasingly urgent. Experts have compiled 12 simple tips that will help you cope with high temperatures and keep your home cool.

This is reported by The Guardian .

Close curtains or blinds before the sun starts to heat up the room . Stuart Walker, a research fellow at the University of Sheffield, explained that this prevents heat from building up in the house.

“If the sun hits a room for a while, it heats up and then stays hot. So you shouldn’t react when the room gets hot. You should have acted 9 hours ago, when the sun just started hitting that room,” said Stuart Walker.

Ventilate your home after sunset . Experts recommend opening windows and doors to let cool night air displace accumulated heat. The best effect is provided by through-ventilation.

Using a fan : University of Sydney Professor Ollie Jay said fans are effective at cooling the body in temperatures up to 40°C, but in very hot temperatures and low humidity they can accelerate body heat gain. He said larger fans are more efficient than smaller ones.

Change your daily routine . On hot days, it is recommended to do physical exercises, walks with pets, and work in the garden immediately after dawn, when the air temperature is still low.

The right choice of clothing . Experts advise wearing loose clothing made of 100% cotton, linen or a blend of these, and choosing light colors that heat up less in the sun.

Stay hydrated . It is recommended to carry a bottle of water with you before leaving the house and drink plenty of fluids. The authors note that tea and coffee can also be included in your total fluid intake.

“There is no evidence that caffeine should be avoided in hot weather, as its diuretic effect is weak,” said Ollie J.

Stay in the shade whenever possible and avoid direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. If you must go outside, experts recommend wearing a wide-brimmed hat.

Lowering body temperature . To do this, it is recommended to drink cold water, refresh your face with cool water, apply a damp towel to the back of your head, or use wet clothing.

Do not use the stove or oven during the hottest hours . The authors advise giving preference to dishes that do not require heat treatment.

Preparing a place to sleep . Experts recommend using bedding made from natural materials and avoiding blankets with synthetic filling during hot weather.

Take a cool shower before bed . This helps lower your body temperature, and the remaining moisture on your skin further cools the body as it evaporates.

Change your daily schedule . If possible, it is worth moving the most intensive tasks to cooler hours or working in an air-conditioned room to make the heat more bearable.

We remind you that by the end of the week , strong heat will begin to enter Ukraine , moving from western Europe to eastern Europe. In most regions of the country, the air temperature will rise to +29…+34 degrees, and in the west, in some places, up to +37 degrees are expected.

It was previously reported that the abnormal heat that has gripped Western European countries will not spread to Ukraine . Instead, the weather in the coming days will remain typical for mid-summer, and the temperature will be further softened by a cold atmospheric front.
