Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar believes that after the end of the war in Ukraine, the European Union may return to purchasing Russian energy resources.
He stated this in an interview with Rzeczpospolita.
In his opinion, geography and competition in the energy market could play a key role in this. Magyar notes that different supply routes create different costs for energy carriers, and this will inevitably affect the decisions of EU countries.
He also emphasized that it is important for Hungary to have multiple sources of energy supply, as this increases energy security and allows for better price conditions in negotiations.
He specifically noted that liquefied natural gas, which is supplied via the Baltic Sea, Poland and Slovakia, is more expensive than pipeline gas from some other directions, in particular from Romania, Russia or Austria. According to him, it is the price factor that often becomes decisive in choosing a supplier.
Magyar added that he plans to continue negotiations to reduce the cost of energy and expand sources of supply for his country.
In particular, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that he would make efforts to ensure competitive prices for energy, although this depends not only on EU countries, but also on the situation on the global gas market, in particular the position of the United States.
Previously, “Pryamiy” reported that the Prime Minister of Hungary began his first foreign visit in office, arriving in Poland for a series of meetings with the country’s leadership.
It was also reported that the Tisza party submitted to the Hungarian parliament the first proposal for amendments to the Constitution, which would limit the prime minister’s term in office to two terms.
