Information silence and budget blow: how Kyiv withstands attacks on energy

The critical situation with the restoration of power supply in the capital was discussed at a closed meeting of the Kyiv City Council. The air defense forces appealed to citizens and officials not to disseminate information about the successes in restoring the networks, so as not to provoke the enemy into new massive attacks.
This was reported on the air of “Pryamoy” by Doctor of Law and Kyiv City Council deputy Leonid Yemets.
“We don’t need to go out and publicly tell people that everything has been restored in Kyiv, there is electricity, water is flowing, everything is great… because then they also turn on their media processes. And an additional bunch of missiles and drones fly over our fucked-up energy structure,” he noted.
According to the guest, hostile bloggers and military analysts monitor public reports on the state of infrastructure in Kyiv. If they see messages about a quick restoration, this becomes a signal for repeated strikes. At the same time, as Yemets informs, the situation with heat remains difficult: in many houses, the batteries remain cold or the heat appears only for a short period of time.
At the same time, the central government has withdrawn significant financial resources from Kyiv’s budget, which has significantly slowed down the city’s preparation for winter challenges. Leonid Yemets reported the loss of about 8 billion hryvnias, which were planned to be directed to ensuring autonomous generation and strengthening the capital’s energy security.
“8 billion UAH, which were supposed to be spent precisely on ensuring energy independence and additional generation in Kyiv, were simply taken away without any additional preludes. A third of the budget disappeared from the city of Kyiv at some point,” the deputy emphasized.
At the same time, as Yemets noted, these funds were supposed to be used to make the city less dependent on the general network in the face of constant attacks. In addition, at the beginning of the year, 7 billion was already withdrawn from the city treasury, and another 12 billion went to eliminate the consequences of previous attacks and restore residential buildings.
Therefore, deputies and economists had to urgently redistribute the remaining resources to cover the most critical needs of residents, – summed up Leonid Yemets.
As a reminder, on the night of Tuesday, February 3, Russian occupation forces again attacked Kyiv . Destruction and fires were recorded in various areas of the capital, and at least three people were injured.
Meanwhile, due to the nightly massive attack on Kyiv, the Darnytskyi and Dniprovskyi districts are currently largely without heat . According to the city’s mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, as of the morning of February 3, 1,170 multi-story buildings are without heat supply.
