The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Prosecutor General’s Office have reported suspicions to the former beneficial owner of one of Ukraine’s largest banks. He is suspected of fraudulently embezzling over UAH 100 million.
As Ukrainska Pravda writes , citing sources in law enforcement agencies, we are talking about businessman Ihor Kolomoisky.
According to the investigation, back in 2014, a scheme was created that allowed money to be withdrawn from the bank through loans.
“The financial scheme consisted of withdrawing credit resources and disguising their further movement as legitimate financial transactions,” the SBU explained.
Investigators found that controlled companies received loans without proper collateral and without real need, after which the funds were passed through a number of firms to create the appearance of normal transactions.
Part of the money, according to the investigation, ended up in the personal accounts of the organizers.
“In December 2014, hundreds of millions of hryvnias were transferred to the suspect’s personal account from an enterprise that was under his control,” the case materials state.
The bank’s losses have now been estimated at over UAH 100 million, but this amount is still being determined. The involvement of other individuals, including bank employees and company executives, is also being investigated.
The suspect is charged with fraud on a particularly large scale as part of an organized group. He faces up to 12 years in prison.
The investigation is ongoing.
As a reminder, in 2025, the High Court of London began hearings that will finally determine the amount that the former owners of PrivatBank, Ihor Kolomoisky and Hennadiy Bogolyubov, must compensate the financial institution.
