Kremlin’s special operation in Alaska: why Trump is helping Putin

The meeting in Alaska was part of the Kremlin’s special information operation to play along with the US president to satisfy his personal ambitions – in response, Donald Trump helped the Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin “get out of the water” and avoid uncomfortable questions from journalists
This opinion was expressed on the air of “Pryamoy” by Oleksandr Krayev, an expert at the Foreign Policy Council “Ukrainian Prism”.
“There was really nothing new, except that the Russians slightly shifted their focus from the information policy plan regarding Trump… They clearly set out not just to please Trump, but to repeat 2016, recreate the Trump narrative, completely play along with him in everything, and do everything possible so that Trump only saw Putin as a true ally,” Krayev is convinced.
He emphasized that all the recent events surrounding the meeting in Alaska are just a special information operation by the Kremlin to play along with Donald Trump.
“At a time when many in Europe and America were pointing out that the elections in 2020-2024 were normal, Putin is saying that no, Trump won in 2020, his victory was stolen. And then all these conversations that Putin started continue about Europe not allowing you to be strong, not allowing you to be yourself, not allowing America to become great again, and Russia can do it… That is, it is obvious that this is a special information operation of the Kremlin, which for some reason is called the summit in Alaska,” the political scientist reflects.
At the same time, he expressed surprise that there was no full-fledged press conference between Trump and Putin following the meeting, which indicates that “Trump helped Putin get out of there unscathed.”
“It was an unpleasant surprise for me that there was no full-fledged press conference… Putin did not want to answer the question of why you are still killing civilians. But it is not in Trump’s tradition to leave such meetings without a press conference. That is, Trump made a public and very big concession to Putin: they say, I will protect you from this press, I know that you do not like to tell the truth, and therefore I will do everything possible so that you do not tell this truth and do not ask you unnecessary questions. This is the only significant public negative factor that I would like to note. It is obvious that Trump covered for Putin and helped him get out of there unscathed,” Krayev explains.
As is known, on August 5, negotiations took place in Anchorage, Alaska, between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. On the eve of the meeting , there were serious fears in expert and political circles that the outcome of the negotiations would be a “territory exchange,” that is, in fact, the legalization of occupied Ukrainian lands by the Russian Federation.
Following the talks, Trump and Putin held a joint press conference. “Pryamy” collected all the key statements of the US and Russian leaders . After the talks, the US President stated, in particular, that the summit was constructive and gave reason for optimism. He announced consultations with NATO and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but stressed that there are no final agreements yet .
In addition, Donald Trump said that both Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky want to see him present at a potential joint meeting on a peaceful settlement in Ukraine. Trump also refused to impose new sanctions against Russia and confirmed that during the negotiations he discussed territorial agreements and security guarantees for Ukraine.
Instead, Putin stressed after the talks that a resolution to the war in Ukraine is possible only after eliminating its “fundamental causes” and restoring the balance of security in Europe. He called the meeting “mutually respectful” and invited the American leader to the next summit in Moscow.
Meanwhile, former US President’s national security adviser John Bolton sharply assessed the results of the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska, stating that the Russian dictator achieved most of what he wanted , while the American president received only the prospect of further talks.
